when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
Reviewed by sergio_jannah on Nov 15, 2009

There are around 8 branches under the same name in Bucharest, the capital, and 2 in the country, one of them at the seaside in Mamaia. I use to go every week, at the restaurant in the revolution piazza, during the winter time, near the romanian athene- close to Hilton's. And in the summer time in Herastrau park - outdoor seating, parking lot, and no smoke at all. Its perfect for going out with your family in the weekend time. I have to mention that indoor, they have separate places for smokers or non-smokers the same. My frequently take is Pizza con prosciutto e funghi with spicy ketchup sauce along with the best wine Terra Romana, always white, or u can pick for the romanian Jidvei sauvignon blank, very good choice with spring water and ice, because in hot summer times its a must. As you eat like an italian i recommend you take pizza. Thin dough and very crispy, well done in the oven, its how i prefer it and you must mention it to the waiter. What is great its that the pizza's are made in a wood oven, and that makes it very delicious. Even the pastas are great, the rice with seafood, the meat also its cooked well, the mushroom soup i love, the summer fruits plateau, the corona beer..... Im hungry already. I will go right now, what are you waiting for?

fairly cheap, average food (at most)... but NO credit cards?!?!

1. This is a restaurant chain... the fact that they don't accept credit cards is very annoying (hello!? it's 2009, not 1909!). It's just fishy IMO; "cash-only" operations are often equated with money laundering in this part of the world. 2. The pasta they use is low quality. On my way to the bathroom I accidentally entered the kitchen and saw lots of boxes of pasta. I saw the same brand in a grocery store and it was the cheapest you could get. 3. The food is reasonably priced (the pollo fra diavola is good) but in no way exceeds average. The service is not very attentive.

Good

La Trattoria seemed to be a favourite among colleagues, probably because the food was broadly predictable and for the most part good. Always noisy and a bit smokey. I think that there are 3 different ones, run by the same family and probably worth checking out, especially if you are not sure what to eat in a Romanian eaterie (It's not just a load of old tripe - which is actually OK!).

pastele negre cu fructe...

Really great food for reasonable prices

It is a chain in Bukarest, they have four restaurants. The restaurant and its interieur is nothing special. Everytime we went there it was very crowded. I didnīt expect too much cause of the low prices but I must say the food is PERFECT. Try the vegetarian Ravioli with a boletus-sauce. The risotto with boletus is great, too. Food is so great that we went there every evening instead of trying another restaurant everytime.
