Traveler ReviewsRelaxed and excellent introduction to Egyptian cuisine

Firstly I was staying at the attached hotel (Mara House - utterly superb), and ate here 3 nights.
The organisation of the serving is slightly odd: there is one sitting starting about 7 and there is no menu to choose from as the idea is a "mini-banquet" to introduce you to common Egyptian dishes. The menu "rotates" every 3 days.
The service was unhurried, relaxed and helpful. I tended to start in the bar and wandered into the resteraunt after a while. First was a soup course of two soups to sample (delivered to the table). These were excellent (particularly the lark's tongue).
Secondly a large tray with some 10 dishes plus rice and flat bread arrived. Each dish is explained individually and we were assured there was more of everything if we wanted, which was pretty unnecessary as there was more than enough for all. There is a good mix of meat and vegetarian. highlights included the whitecheese dish, the lentils, the homus and the beef "stew".
Finally a single desert with tea arrived. These were excellent, without fail, and the best sweets i had in two weeks in Egypt.
As an introduction to Egyptian food this is excellent. The one drawback is that if you don't like Egyptian food this resteraunt won't appeal.
