Had a really excellent meal with good friendly service. Picked from the egyptian menu and was not disappointed. Do try and make one visit here and suggest that you book not to be disappointed.

Visited this restaurant twice. The 1st time we went it was quiet and we were seated straight away. The service was good and speedy and the food was excellent and great value. The 2nd time it was busy and we had to wait for a table. We had a drink outside while we waited. When inside the service was a little slow as the restaurant was full, but the food again was excellent. Overall a great restaurant that I would highly recommend.

Very good food.

This restaurant is well worth a visit. It is owned and run by an English lady and the food is freshly cooked and tasty.

You have to eat here while in Luxor

We went to this restaurant because of the reviews and we were not dissapointed. It is a real hidden gem and off the beaten track so you do have to know that it is there. We went two nights running and its like being in someones house its that friendly. : Lovely atmosphere. The food was fabulous, we had the set Egyptian menu which was great, lovely. They also did a nice spag bol for my nephew who is a fussy eater, he loved it. There is a lot of different dishes on the menu. You really must go here to eat. All the staff were really friendly and were commited to you enjoying yourself. Great place

Excellent food at a brilliant price

Too many restaurants in Luxor don't serve Egyptian food; instead they serve "English food and International cuisine". This is a great pity, as the local food is excellent when you can actually find where to get it. As The Jewel of the Nile is owned and personally managed by an ex-pat English lady whose Egyptian husband is the chef, you can dine confidently from the extensive menu. Go "international" if you like, as the menu caters for all tastes, but we recommend you try the set Egyptian 4-course option for a superb introduction to the local cuisine. The restaurant also serves wine and beer; many places in Luxor don't (eg Maxime's, near the Sheraton - great for a light lunch, but with soft drinks only.) The Jewel is just a little off the beaten restaurant lane but is all the better for this, and this factor, together with its small, unpretentious interior, explains its superb value for money. Don't be put off by its location in a residential street: the local people are friendly and easy-going. If walking back to your accommodation in the dark worries you (it shouldn't - the area is far from affluent, but there' nothing to be afraid of), then Laura, the owner will arrange a taxi for you within minutes of your asking.
