Great performance in the State Opera - go if you can get tickets

hi All - we went to see the Ballet in the Opera house; its really nice and as a foreigner you do not rely on the language problem. We got tickets via our Hotel desk and paid about 30 euros for top tickets

Really good accoustic

Amazing interior, cheap tickets for the top floor. If you are lucky you spend only 3 Euros.

Worth seeing - beautiful interior

The outside is a bit dingy and need of cleaning, but the interior is beautiful. The guided tour was pretty good also.

Great opera, beautiful building

Got tickets to La Boheme on-line. The tickets are available for sale one month ahead of the performance online. Apparently everybody wanted to see the opera at Christmas time, so we were very lucky to get seats at all. The operahouse is beautiful, sort of smaller version of the great Paris Opera house, Opera Garnier with a grand stair case, and gallery too. All the marble and gilding, and poshy boxes. The Hungarian State operas performance of La Boheme in Dec 22 2009 was a very good one, great singing albeit occasionally singers really had to fight the orchestra from taking over. The sets were just wonderful, the view over Paris roofs made you believe you were actually there, the Latin Quarter scene was a vibrant one, and the winter scene at the toll gate, with all the trees and snow was so romantic and realistic at the same time, it was very beautiful. The set painters excelled in their job! Accoustics are good. The seats however, at the orchestea level were not very comfortable, they had very little stuffing on the wooden seats. But since the opera had two intermissions, this wasn't a problem. They had so manu bars in the grand gallery that there was virtually no waiting to get a drink or a sandwich, coffee etc. The prices, as in most operas, were on the high side. There is a place to leave your coat, and outerwear for a small charge. The ladies responsible are very nice and very efficient. Getting to the Opera is easy as it has it's own Metro station. Please note that the doors to the Opera do not open until 45 minutes ahead of the start, and you're not allowed in (to get your coat checked, and to your seat) until 30 minutes prior to performance begins.

Go see a show!

http://www.opera.hu/index_e.php?lang=en&module=main_eng We booked tickets to see the ballet (Taming of the Shrew) at the Opera House in Budapest, online (before our trip), We used the above site that takes you to a link site. The tickets are extremely cheap and are even cheaper than a tour of the opera house! We had a box seat, which had limited viewing. If you get a box seat, make sure you are on row 1 to ensure you can see the show! It is very grand inside as you would expect. The staff speak basic English and direct you to your seats. There is a bar in there that you can use in the interval - drinks are very expensive though and it gets very busy. The show was very good and well worth the whole Ł2 each that we paid!!!
