Visit Szechenyi Now - Fantastic
Reviewed by sheoighie on Mar 8, 2010

Went to the bath on my own, it was a fantastic place, there are so many different pools to choose from. There are several different pools with varying temperatures, going from 38 degrees to 20 degrees... pools where you can try to swim/walk against the current, I even did a class of aqua. Best place though is outside there are 3 different pools. It was -2 outside but it felt like a summers day. The first is a hot thermal pool, you will see the steam rising, next is a large pool for swimming and lastly there is a wave pool on outside and jacuzzi on inside. The wave pool is round and it basically pulls you around its great fun tends to go for about 20 mins then stops for another break and starts again. You can also have spa treatments done on 1st floor.

Very disappointing and very dirty!

Was really looking forward to visiting the Szechenyi Baths and pool and one of the reasons I chose to visit Budapest and I love my spas! On arrival the lady at the till where you pay for entry was really unhelpful and we wanted to know how much it was to pay especially as you could have just a locker or a 'cabin' which is basically your individual changing room, and she just wasn't clear how much the treatments i.e. massages etc were. After walking through, we were taken back by actually how big the place was and how many levels and sets of stairs there are. After trying to find a member of staff that could speak English to try and find our way to a cabin to get changed, I managed to find a cleaner who was sweeping the floors whilst at the same time having a cigerette hanging our their mouth around people with barefoot.. how hygienic! Then another staff member also with a broom in one hand and a sandwich in the other.. interesting to eat whilst working and again people walking around in their swim wear. I remember reading reviews beforehand about taking flipflops and thank god I did, the thought of walking around barefoot would make me feel sick! When actually getting into our cabin that was for 2 people, it was hard hard to get changed in their at the same time as it was tiny! Forgot to take previous reviews advice and bring my own towel so had to hire one... big mistake! They are not towels, they are bed sheets! Thin, tatty, worn with staines on! Once in the pool rooms we could not go into any steam rooms as they were all over crowded and people could not sit down. I think we were only at the Szechenyi Baths and Pool for maximum 1 hour and I could not wait to get back to my hotel and have a shower! A real let down

hot bath with a chessclub inside...

we had a great time when the weather was really bad and were sitting in the bath doing a chess game with a few friendly pensioners who, with a season ticket, go there everyday. very cool, huge and quite an attraction. also good for kids that can swim

the best spa for the low-season

The best spa for the off season as you can use the outdoor pools too. Bring your towel and slippers! Boxer ?style swim wear is ok for men. When you book an appointment for massage, bring along a magazin with you as you may to wait a little longer.

A magical experience

Visited the spa in January and it was very cold but once you dip your body in the thermal baths outside you forget it's so cold. The staff was very friendly although you feel a little lost and confused at first but most of the staff we met spoke english. There were people from all over the world so you're bound to find someone that speaks your language. The weekends are packed but more people watching which was fun. Great place. BRING YOUR OWN TOWEL AND SHOWER SHOES!!!!!! The first visit there I thought my feet froze to the ground outside.
