Excellent Surf School....... planned our wedding also!
Reviewed by CLRF93 on Mar 8, 2010

We spent a week at Safari Surf School and got married on the beach at sunset. All the wedding planning was coordinated by Tim and Sonja and the arrangements were everything that we wanted and more. The surf instruction was excellent and the instructors made us feel relaxed in the water. We stayed at the Harmony Hotel which is directly across the street from the surf school. We look forward to returning for our anniversary!

Safari Surf School Rocks!

We signed up at Safari in Nosara in Feb 2010 as a family (with three children ages 6, 8, and 10) to learn how to surf. From Sonja's (the Operation Manager or Cruise Director as we liked to call her) energy level and attention to detail to the instructors who were great with the kids (esp. Nico, Helberth, and Alonso) to Tyler for putting it all together, the Safari people helped make our stay in Playa Guiones a memorable one and one of the best vacations we've ever had! I would highly recommend Safari to couples of families who are in the Nosara area and want to have fun while learning how to surf. The instructors were particularly good and engaged with the kids...

An unforgettable adventure

From the moment I received an e mail from Tim Marsh of Safari School I knew I had made the right decision. He was very helpful with travel arrangements and sent us maps of Costa Rica prior to our trip. This was our second trip to Costa Rica but our first Safari Surf school adventure. Nosara is the place to go to surf, practice yoga and simply take it all in. It was an unforgettable adventure. We'd start our day with some fresh tropical fruit, surf for an hour with our amazing instructors then take in a traditional tico breakfast at the Casa Tucan. I was new to surfing and that didn't matter, the instructors with their zen-like patience had me conquering my fears after a few days. My daughter couldn't get enough of the waves and at all times I felt that we were safe. You can take in a Yoga class with Jody or a massage at Tica Massage. If you have adventurous kids then I recommend the Canopy zip line tour with Miss Sky. Bring a camera. The howler monkeys are not shy. Eating dinner was casual, served family style, a great way to meet new friends. I didn't check my e mails once. I didn't need a cell phone. I wore flip flops the entire time. The thought of New York snowstorms melted away after a few days at Playa Guinoes. If you can handle the dusty back roads, the heat and don't mind a few friendly lizards sharing your shower then you'll be fine. Pack your rash guards and swim suits and go! Life is too short for regrets. Pura Vida. My special thanks to Tyler, Tim, Pio, Nico and Ileaana. See you again soon.

An amazing adventure vacation

Oh, we loved Safari Surf School and Costa Rica! It was so relaxing to have the surf school handle all the details of our stay. Their staff act like a family. They are punctual, organized, and very friendly. The Casa Tucan landscape is simply beautiful. We adored not having a car for 5 days and just exploring the beach, town, and jungle all around us. We were beginners and the surf instructors are friendly, experienced, patient, and supportive. We can't wait to come back! The ocean water was so warm and the surfing was fun!

Beautiful Land, Helpful instructors, Pura Vida

Safari Surf in Nosara Costa Rica is a beautiful place to go and recharge your batteries from cold winters in the North. Likes: Patience and knowledge of the Surf Instructors, ability to be immersed in the community and feel like you belong. Dislikes: The drive to Nosara is a 2-3 hour drive from Liberia with the last 20-25 km being on bumpy dirt roads. On the way out it was familiar but on the way in it seemed very long. What to Bring: I would recommend bringing a waterproof camera so that you can snap some action surf shots and also you should come well equipped with a desire for adventure. I would recommend being here for at least a week, but that being said after a week was up I did not want to leave.
