Odyssey Tours Fantastic
Reviewed by Atlanta58 on Mar 3, 2010

We contacted Odyssey Tours after reading a couple glowing reviews. Via email they suggested a super hotel in Puerto Caldera - Costa del Sol with nicely kept rooms, reasonably price, excellent food, and close to the port for our cruise departure. Odyssey met us at the San Jose airport and transported us in a nice air conditioned van to Puerto Caldera. They even provided a nice commentary on Costa Rica as we traveled from and back to the airport. I highly recommend Odyssey for vacation and travel support.

Private Driver

Our family of 4 visited Costa Rica in February 2010. We required transportation between Monteverde and Manuel Antonio and then to San Jose. I contacted several drivers recommended through tripadvisor. Diego from Odyssey Tours was extremely prompt with his email communication and did not ask for a deposit to reserve his services. Their rates were cheaper than taking the public Interbus for 4 people. Diego arrive 30 minutes early and provided such an insight into his country during the drive. We stopped at several locations for photographs, shopping and lunch. I highly recommend their services.

Great animal excursion in Puntarenas with odyssey tours
Reviewed by Fun2Bwithpair on Feb 28, 2010

Our next stop, after a day at sea, on Friday, 1/29/2010, was Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We had booked a tour with Odyssey Tours of Costa Rica, dealing with Diego and Alvaro who are brothers. They were waiting for us right off the dock. Diego was going to look for another tour, so we went to the A/C van and met the driver. Alvaro then gave us an overview of our tour. We had requested a tour to see as many animals as possible. We started our drive along the highway with Alvaro describing the area. He then stopped on the side of a hill and got out and looked for monkeys in the trees. There were none, so we continued on to the entrance to the Carara National Park. Alvaro paid for us and then we drove back about 2 miles to another entrance. A gated dirt road was the path?the road went to an Indian village about 40 km inland. We went here to avoid the tour bus crowds which would make seeing animals unlikely. The hike was about 2 km each way. It was an easy hike along the dirt road. About 1 kilometer in we came on a group of 4 capuchin monkeys frolicking in the trees along the road. We got pictures and one of the monkeys jumped across the road. Alvaro had a single lens scope?very nice?which he trained on the monkeys. For all of the animal we would see he would do this, and after we viewed it, he would take our cameras and take pictures of the animals through his scope?very nice. We also came on some beautiful large iridescent butterflies. About 1 ˝ km in we came on a pair of scarlet macaws. One was sitting in branches, and the other was eating dates. We then came on our goal, the lagoon area. Here we saw a small crocodile, Jesus Christ lizards, boat-beaked heron, and an Aracari. Alvaro got us some great pictures of the latter with his scope. On the hike back we saw the macaws and an iguana. We next drove to a road that went to a colonial village resort and went beyond its entrance to get a great view of the ocean and a beautiful waterfall. We then visited the resort and its shops. Next we drove to the seashore and a small village where we viewed some more scarlet macaws. We then went into a little. Local restaurant and had plates of wonderful fresh fruits and drinks (included in price). We started back and stopped at a bridge over a river where we saw several dozen large crocodiles sunning themselves on the bank. We then went to the village of Orotina to view the sloths the villagers had put in the trees in the park to discourage the Grackles from nesting there. Besides the sloths, we got a great view of a large gray owl. Then we went to a small house in the village that had souvenirs for sale. Then we proceeded to the town super market and purchased Costa Rican coffee for gifts?price was very cheap, and Alvaro even used his super market loyalty card to get a discount. We then drove back to the pier. The tour was great. We saw lots of animals, Alvaro was doing everything he could so we could see more. He brought his scope everywhere which really enhanced the viewing. The lunch was very nice. Alvaro and the driver were both personable and did whatever it took to make the tour comfortable and enjoyable. Diego and Alvaro can be reached through www.odysseytourscr.com. They were excellent at communicating, provided everything they promised and more, and were very reasonable.

Wonderful family trip with Odyssey Tours!

14 members of my family recently returned from a 9 day tour around Costa Rica in which Alvero provided all transportation and guiding. Prior to the trip many emails were exchanged regarding the itinerary. All these were handled in a professional and prompt manner. During the trip they were very timely and within a day we considered them just 2 more ?family members.? We could not have been more pleased with the services they provided. Al?s suggestions were extremely valuable on hotels, restaurants and activities. He was not bothered a bit by changes we made and extra stops along the way. He was also accommodating to the wide variety of ages we had (20months ? 83!) and served as a wonderful translator for our son who has a peanut allergy. His knowledge of local wildlife and customs and was invaluable. We would highly recommend Odyssey Tours for a trip of a lifetime! Nicole

Odyssey Day Tours - What a truly wonderful experience!

My husband and I booked the Waterfalls Canopy Tour from Puntarenas and had the most amazing treat of our whole cruise holiday! Alvaro and DIego, from Odyssey Tours, promptly replied to our queries and made suitable suggestions as to how we could best spend our valuable few hours in Costa Rica. We were sent presentations of tours and we could even opt to change the itinerary if we wished. Despite a change of port (from Puntarenas to Caldera), our tour guide arrived promptly at the quayside to whisk us off in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus. We sought local wildlife and were not disappointed with our viewings of crocodiles, scarlet macaws and monkeys, to name a few. Our guide spoke excellent English, and he was friendly and informative. We felt that nothing was too much trouble for him as he ensured that our day was one to remember for all the right reasons. Organisation between different aspects of the tour was excellent, and the cost of refreshments was included. Our ziplining guides were also great. As we walked through the rainforest towards the ziplining platform, we were treated to a brief insight into how to survive in the rainforest, and taught about the local flora and fauna. Following a safety briefing, the exhilarating ziplining experience is one I shall never forget. Above the canopy it is alive with birdsong - not to be missed! The guides even ensured that our memories were captured on our own camera. The optional lunch was sheer delight .... a tasty 'banquet on a plate', cooked by a local lady on her veranda, by the beach. There was so much to choose from, and my only complaint is that I never had sufficient space in my stomach to eat it all! I highly recommend a tour with these great guys, and I hope to be able to return to Costa Rica in the future. I'll be sure to book with them again. We felt that we had excellent service and fantastic value for money. Thank you Alvaro and Diego for making sure we have some wonderful memories of your beautiful country! For anybody interested in the Waterfalls Canopy Tour, I advise wearing sturdy footwear (shoes or trainers), long trousers and insect repellant. Don't forget your camera!
