Traveler ReviewsHire these guys!

We had a great tour today from Juan. We took the morning tour, which was still downright steamy. Juan was friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent spotter (how on Earth do these guys see a 3 inch beastie from 200 feet away????). Believe me - we would have NEVER seen most of the animals we saw without him. When we took a break near the beach, he cut up a pineapple for us as a snack. We saw a good number of animals, including JC lizards, a red iguana, sloths, Capuchin monkeys, a sleepy howler, tree frog, a toucan, and some other birds. It was very worthwhile, though we feared we would melt before the end of the tour. We hired this company from our hotel (Issimo Suites), and arranged a private tour for 2 for $130 (pls us tip) - it was worth it not to have to share the guide (and viewing scope) with (what looks like an average of) 6 other people per tour. Recommended!
Juan was great...

We took the advice from other tripadvisor posts and arranged for a guide at the Park. Just a warning to anyone who may be going, as you get close to the park there are men in the road telling you that you cannot go any further. This is a scam to get you to park in their lots then hire their guides. I'm sure they are okay, but I personally don't like to give money to liars. The monkeys and sloths are relatively easy to see on your own, but there are tons of other things to see. Juan was great and took the time to make sure everyone had a good time. He also offered to set up a zipline, but we chose to stick with the tripadvisor recommended lines.
Amazing and personalized tours!

My wife and I took two day trips with Manuel Antonio Expeditions, and they were the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. The guide picked us up precisely on time each day and made extra stops for us. After one tour, we thought it would be nice to have lunch in the area, so the guide recommended a couple of local places, and the driver was willing to wait as long as we wanted to enjoy a leisurely lunch. The second day we requested the same guide again-- he took us through the park and knew all about the local plant and animal population and answered all of our many questions. We were very enthusiastic about learning about the ecology and our guide clearly enjoyed educating us. And after the 2nd tour of the trip, our guide Edgar took us to his house where he introduced us to his family and gave a sample of homemade Tica cooking - tamales!! They were yummy and added to the amazing personal treatment of this tour company.
nothing but the best to say about trips with Paul Gonsalves

Paul was very knowledgeable and genuinely excited about seeing nature, extremely punctual and dependable. He went out of his way several times during our trip to help us where he could not expect to receive any personal gain. He arranged trips with other tour operators for us at a discount, made many helpful suggestions about the rest of our trip that saved us tons of money and even drove us to a doctor when we had an emergency and waited for us. It was clear that Paul is kind of rare person who does good things out of genuine human qualities and it was a pleasure to tour with him. - December 2009
Excellent guide

So, at first I was a bit nervous about these guys -- I had wanted to hit Manuel Antonio park first thing in the morning, and they said their earliest pickup was at 8:10am (the park opens at 7am). Then, they came late, and when they dropped us off at the front of the park, there were a billion other people there and I was worried we would all be on the same tour.
But, not to fear! The tour itself was great -- they divided us into smaller groups, so only three of us went with our tour guide, Edgar. He was an amazingly funny, and had a keen eye. We saw tons of wildlife -- monkeys, sloths, a toucan, bats, frogs, an anteater, etc. He seemed to enjoy the tour as much as we did, and stayed with us for over three hours (even though the tour was supposedly only 2 1/2 hours long). He really made our trip to Manuel Antonio memorable and awesome!
