Traveler ReviewsGreat place in a remote location

Really nice restaurant in Monteverde. You a have travel 25+ miles on really bad roads to get to Monteverde from the main highway. Monteverde is full of nice hotels and some really good restaurants. This is a great tapas restaurant, a great place for lunch. We had the corn tortilla soup and fried onion rings.
Great, different food with reasonable prices

I live in Chicago, so I have pretty low expectations for "reasonably priced" food. After eating an over-priced, undersized and underwhelming lunch at El Establo hotel, we decided to eat here for dinner. We've eaten at tapas restaurants before -- it's important to understand the concept of multiple small plates, great to be shared, and you can always order more as you go if you are still hungry. I appreciated the small portions, including the desserts, that were reasonable and did not put me into a good coma. I loved the fusion of Latin and other cuisines and the mix of sweet and savory with the desserts. The ceviche was okay (I would have preferred more patacones, but I also didn't ask for me). The calamari and coconut shrimp were great. The eggplant neapolitan dish was smokier than I liked. Drinks were excellent, and I always enjoy giving business to smaller places (as opposed to corporate or hotel-based places). It was also a nice change from "comida tipica" (which I like, but needed a break from gallo pinto, plantains, eggs, and plain meat).

We got there for an early meal so basically had the place to ourselves. With the server's recommendation we got the house margarita - Yummy! The flavor combinations with the food was fantastic! This is a must visit when in Monteverde.
Must eat here!

Chimera is a wonderful restaurant - amazing, fresh, creative tapas that we could not get enough of (and fabulous drinks!). This is 110% worth visiting if you are in Monteverde - recommend highly!!!
