A party of four went for brunch at Gundel in late Autumn last year. Fantastic value at around A$30 pp and includes a welcome glass of champagne or bloody mary, I went for the latter. Weather was lovely, so we sat in the garden. Service friendly and attentive for bread/wine etc and we were brought some savouries to munch on. Extensive wine list with losts of local choices.
Food is a buffet with an amazing range of food to choose from and there was a grill outside. If you are in Budapest on a Sunday don't miss it. Next time we are there, we'll splurge and go for dinner.

I have not been there, but I made a reservation for my colleague from Sapporo JAPAN, who took her father to this restaurant for his 60th birthday. I exchanged some emails with one of the kindest reservation asistant Ms A.S, to make a special borthday dinner for them. Ms A.S. offered me some ideas to surprise them with secret , such as "Happy Birthday song " sung by gyspy bands and birthday cake. They just felt amazing at what the restrant stuff did to them, which was one of the best memories of their trip to Europe.
I talked to my collegue yesterday, and she really thanked Ms A.S. for making a surprising plan.
Great food, good atmosphere

Gundel is in a nice palace close to the Zoo. We very much liked the warm reception they gave us, and got a nice table close to the window. The dining room is huge which takes away a bit of the atmosphere of the building. There is a choice of several exciting menus that include nicely paired wines (optional), or a la carte dining. We had one of those menus and were highly satisfied. Service is fast (even a bit too fast for my taste) and good; there is a live band playing classical (mostly Hungarian) music at a comfortable volume.
