Traveler Reviews

Beautiful Food
Reviewed by Dianeod on Feb 25, 2010

We visited Cafe Kor on our first night in Budapest based on the reviews we read here and were not disappointed. It was very busy and we did not have a reservation so they very nicely told us to come back in 20mins and they would have a table for us. We ordered the duck salad for starter to share but they brought us out two plates of it (did not charge extra!!) it was so tasty and the duck was so succulent. For main I had the pike perch with fried potatoes which was beautiful. Even the wine was nice. Would highly recommend.

Best introduction to Hungarian food!

We were at Cafe Kor on Saturday 20th February - a very cold and wet night and we were so glad to find it!! We had made a reservation but were very lucky to get a table, so I would recommend reserving. The restaurant is very close to St Stephens Basilica (which is beautiful inside - do go in), but we got very lost trying to find it! When we arrived late for our reservation and totally soaking they didn't mind and served us very promptly. The food was fantastic - we had an amazing beef goulash with lovely crunchy potatoe croquettes, and a beautiful roasted duck breast. For dessert we had very rich chocolate crepes which were great. The wine was lovely too. The service was very quick and we were in and out within an hour - I'm sure you could have taken a lot longer over your food though - we were just so ravenous! Portions were good, service friendly and smiley, and two courses and a glass of wine each came to about £21.00.

Lovely food, good value

Very busy - even in the week, and that was in February! Popular with the locals. We had the only table on the Gallery - a bit dark - it was the only one left. Menu in English, good choice of Hungarian and international dishes and a 'specials menu.

Lush!

I was not very adventurous and chose the fillet steak, however, this was delicious. There is plenty of choice and the portions were nice and big. It was a Tuesday night and the cafe was packed, which is always a good sign as there are numerous restaurants in the area that were very quiet. I would recommend this.

Hearty, tasty, mindblasting...

Hearty, tasty, mindblasting Hungarian-Irish fusion. As a cute Canuck fresh from TO searching for my Hungarian ethnic roots (1/16th carpathian caruso) this took me back to my maygar grandmothers lunches god rest her big bones. Try the Ginger gang goolie goulash for the urgent 618 experience.
