Warning: check your bill

Um, this is the top rated Restaurant in Budapest? How did that happen? Either there's some really bad restaurants or there's not enough reviews of other good restaurants.
OK, let's start with the bad: Check your bill. Although everything is in English, the blackboards out the front, the menus, the daily specials, when the bill came it was in Hungarian. Good luck trying to check that everything's OK. And here comes the big reason why I've given them only 3 stars: They put an automatic tip on your bill! Cheeky buggers. There's no mention of this on the menu and of course they're not going to tell you. I just wonder how many other people have paid and then given them another tip because they didn't check the fine print? I believe that if a waiter is good, they get a tip - it should never be automatic.
Bad No.2 (service): I read in another review that the service was slow. They've listened and now the service is at light speed. I don't know about you but I like to have my pre-dinner drink, well, pre dinner. Unfortunately, they're so keen to make sure you get everything quickly that my aperitif was brought at exactly the same time as my starter. There also very keen to whisk away your plates as soon as you put your cutlery down. Also, communication between waiters often involves yelling across the restaurant with you in the middle. Not great for your dinner conversation! Finally, little things like ordering a new type of wine and having it poured into the old wine glass - not good. You can see they're trying but they have some way to go.
Good No.1: The food is very good and the presentation is great. I really enjoyed my carrot soup with 5 spice and my wife raved about her chocolate volcano dessert. The ambience is very nice too. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it has a bistro feel to it - nice colour scheme, simple wooden furniture, quite relaxed on the whole.
Summary: Good food, mixed service (but they're trying), bad, bad idea with the billing.
Lovely food in fabulous atmosphere - but TINY portions

There was live piano music, attentive service, and a pretty bistro atmosphere. But the portions were very small. I ordered a lamb ragout which cost about GBP12. And there was about 9 mouthfuls of food. Very tasty. But not much...
Excellent in every respect

Hmm, how shall I put this. Normally when we visit larger cities we are eager to try out as many restaurants as possible. You never know what are missing if you dont. But in this case we made an exception. The first night we arived at 10 pm. Late, but both service and food was excellent. So we skipped our usual jumping to yet another resaturant the day after, and did go back to the Borsso Bistro.
When we arived the second time, we were greeted with a welcome back and a big smile. We had a full three course meal, delicious Hungarian white wine. Both food, wine an indeed the service was well above average.
